Ambassador Reddy Mampane's Farewell Visit to Juba

Juba, South Sudan - The South African Ambassador to Sudan Mr. Reddy J. Mampane returned to Khartoum, on January 22, 2008. The main purpose of his return to Khartoum was to finalize his tour of duty in the Sudan. Accompanied by the Counselor-designate, Ms Rasheeda Adam, Ambassador Mampane arrived in Juba, southern Sudan, on February 14 to bid farewell to government of South Sudan officials.

During his visit to Juba, Ambassador Mampane met with the President of the government of South Sudan, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Vice President of the government of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar, and the Minister of Regional Co-operation, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin.

In a statement given to the press upon his arrival, Ambassador Mampane mentioned that his country is expected to inaugurate a consulate in Juba within a period of four months, but revealed that the opening of the consulate has been delayed due to construction work still on going.

South Africa and the Republic of Sudan established diplomatic relations in 1994.
