Obituary and Condolences: Governor Samuel Abujohn

The Governor of southern Sudan's Western Equatoria State, Lt. General Samuel
Abu-John Kabashi has passed away at 19:45(local time) on Thursday, Feb. 14,
2008, at his residence in Yambio.

Lt. General Abu-John, who was in his eighties, had a military career, which
spanned many years. He served in the first Anya Nya 1 movement in southern
Sudan, and later in the Sudanese Army. He became Governor of Western Equatoria
and a commander in the SPLA under the late Dr. John Garang, a post he held until
the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005. Following the
formation of the Government of Southern Sudan, governor Abu-John was then named
advisor to President Salva Kiir Mayardit, until August 2006, where he was again
appointed to replace Col Patrick Zamoi as governor of the Western Equatoria
State.

Governor Abu-John will be remembered for his dedication to serve Southern
Sudan.
