By BLO-MRC [The Hague - Netherlands]

The tenth batch of trainees from the government of South Sudan’s ministry of Regional Cooperation, who had followed an intensive training course at Clingendael’s Diplomatic Studies Program (CDSP) of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations in The Hague, completed their training on September 22, 2009.

Officiated by Mr. Ron Ton – the institute’s Director of Diplomatic Training – the closing ceremony marking the end of this training program was attended by a representative of the Dutch ministry of Foreign Affairs, the deputy Principal Liaison Officer and staff of the Liaison Office of the government of South Sudan to the EU and Belgium, and staff of the CDSP. The sixteen trainees – all employees of the ministry of Regional Cooperation – began their training on August 31, 2009.

The Diplomatic Studies Program (CDSP) offered by the now renowned Netherlands Institute of International Relations is known to combine the institute’s strengths in research and training with new fields of interests and contemporary trends in the realm of international relations and diplomacy.

The policy-related CDSP’s tailor-made training courses to cater for the needs of professionals from the governments of National Unity and South Sudan were first developed and offered in 2004, shortly before the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in January 2005, in Kenya.
